Mercedes-Maybach

Germany Founded 1921 Ultra-Luxury Mercedes-Benz Group

Mercedes-Maybach represents the absolute pinnacle of the Mercedes-Benz brand hierarchy — an ultra-luxury sub-brand that elevates the S-Class and GLS beyond conventional luxury into the realm of bespoke opulence previously reserved for Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Named for Wilhelm Maybach, the engineer who worked alongside Gottlieb Daimler to create the very first Mercedes automobile, Maybach signifies the highest expression of German engineering mastery.

Origins & Heritage

The Maybach name has been synonymous with the highest levels of automotive excellence for over a century. Wilhelm Maybach was the engineering genius who designed the first Mercedes automobile in collaboration with Gottlieb Daimler in the 1890s — his son Karl Maybach subsequently founded Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH in 1909, which produced between 1921 and 1941 some of the most magnificent automobiles ever created. Maybach's pre-war Zeppelin and SW series cars were built in tiny numbers for royalty, heads of state, and the world's wealthiest industrialists — their engineering sophistication and coachbuilt opulence setting standards that even Rolls-Royce acknowledged with respect.

Daimler AG revived the Maybach name in 2002 as a standalone ultra-luxury brand — the Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 limousines were intended to recapture the heritage of the pre-war models with modern engineering magnificence. However, the independent Maybach revival proved commercially challenging: the new models could not escape comparison with the Rolls-Royce Phantom, and Daimler discontinued the standalone brand in 2013.

The current Mercedes-Maybach concept — revived in 2014 — is more commercially astute: rather than attempting to launch a completely separate car line, Mercedes-Maybach applies the Maybach treatment to extended and substantially enhanced versions of existing S-Class and GLS platforms. The result is vehicles that combine the engineering foundation of the world's finest executive saloon with an additional layer of bespoke craftsmanship, extended wheelbase, and exclusive materials — delivering Rolls-Royce levels of rear-seat luxury at a price that, while extraordinary, remains below the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Mercedes-Maybach in Azerbaijan & the Caucasus

Mercedes-Maybach occupies a unique position in the Azerbaijani luxury car market — a vehicle associated with the highest levels of business and government prestige in a country where automotive status symbols carry significant social meaning. The S-Class Maybach in particular is frequently seen in Baku among the country's business elite, government officials, and diplomatic community, valued for its combination of German engineering supremacy and the conspicuous demonstration of refined taste.

The strong Mercedes-Benz dealer network in Azerbaijan ensures that Maybach buyers have access to the brand's full aftersales support infrastructure — including the certified technicians, genuine parts supply, and concierge service standards that ultra-luxury ownership requires. The GLS 600 Maybach has found particularly strong resonance in the Azerbaijani market, offering the practical all-road capability of a large SUV with the rear-compartment luxury traditionally associated with formal limousines.

Why Choose Mercedes-Maybach?

  • Century of heritage: The Maybach name has signified the world's finest automobiles since 1921 — a heritage of engineering excellence that Rolls-Royce and Bentley alone can equal in duration and distinction.
  • Mercedes-Benz reliability: Unlike standalone ultra-luxury brands, Maybach benefits from Mercedes-Benz's global service network, parts supply chain, and engineering support — practical ultra-luxury ownership.
  • Hyperscreen technology: Mercedes-Maybach offers the world's most sophisticated digital interior experience — the MBUX Hyperscreen is unmatched in scope, intelligence, and integration.
  • V12 provenance: The S 680's 6.0L V12 represents one of the last naturally aspirated twelve-cylinder engines in production — a mechanical treasure with no equivalent in today's automotive landscape.
