LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) is the manufacturer of London's iconic black cab taxi, with roots stretching back to 1908 and a proud heritage of producing purpose-built vehicles for urban passenger transport. Under the ownership of China's Geely Holding Group, LEVC has been transformed into a 21st-century electric vehicle manufacturer producing the world's most advanced purpose-built urban mobility vehicles — combining British craftsmanship with Chinese investment and global EV technology.
The company known today as LEVC has its origins in the Mann & Overton dealership established in 1908, which supplied the first purpose-built London taxi cabs. Through various name changes and ownership transitions, the company became known as the London Taxi Company before being acquired by China's Geely Holding Group in 2013, after which it was renamed to London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) to reflect its new direction toward electrification.
Geely's acquisition was transformative. The Chinese company invested over £500 million in a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Coventry, England, and in developing the TX eCity — the world's first purpose-built electric taxi cab. The TX combines Geely's electric vehicle technology with the iconic London cab design language and the specific requirements of professional passenger transport, including the mandatory turning circle, Conditions of Fitness compliance, and accessible passenger compartment.
The TX eCity entered service in London in 2018, replacing the previous diesel-powered TX4 taxis and dramatically reducing emissions in the central London Zero Emission Zone. The vehicle has since been adopted by cities across Europe and beyond, and LEVC has developed the VN5 electric van as an extension of the brand's commercial vehicle capabilities using the same Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology platform.
LEVC's TX eCity electric taxi is one of the world's most distinctive vehicles — immediately recognisable as the London black cab while incorporating 21st-century electric vehicle technology.

LEVC's range currently focuses on two purpose-built electric vehicles for urban professional transport — the iconic TX taxi and the VN5 commercial van.
LEVC's Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology provides an elegant solution to the range anxiety challenge faced by commercial operators. A small petrol generator extends the operational range beyond pure battery capability, allowing taxi drivers to operate all day without range concerns while delivering zero local emissions throughout the journeys where it matters most — in urban areas with air quality challenges.
LEVC's iconic London taxi design carries global recognition — the TX eCity is one of the world's most immediately identifiable vehicles, and its distinctive silhouette signals quality, safety, and professional passenger service wherever it operates. Cities seeking to upgrade their taxi fleets to electric propulsion while maintaining a premium passenger experience have adopted the TX across Europe.
For Azerbaijan, with Baku's growing tourism sector and government focus on sustainable urban development, the LEVC TX represents an interesting proposition for premium taxi and hospitality transport services. The vehicle's accessibility features, spacious passenger compartment, and zero local emissions make it well suited to premium urban mobility applications in a rapidly developing city.
