Saleen Automotive was founded in 1983 by Steve Saleen, a former racing driver who had competed in Trans-Am Series events and brought genuine track expertise to his performance car ambitions. The company began by producing modified Ford Mustangs — the Saleen Mustang — upgrading suspension, brakes, aerodynamics, and interior to create a more focused performance version of America's most iconic pony car.
