Origins & Heritage

Iveco — an acronym for Industrial Vehicles Corporation — was established in Turin, Italy in 1975 through the merger of five European commercial vehicle manufacturers: Italy's FIAT Veicoli Industriali and OM, Germany's Lancia and Magirus-Deutz, and French truckmaker UNIC. This pan-European consolidation under the FIAT Group umbrella created an immediate scale advantage, combining manufacturing plants, distribution networks, and engineering capabilities across the continent at a time when the European commercial vehicle market was rapidly professionalising.

The Magirus heritage brought particular value to the new company — the German brand's Deutz air-cooled diesel engines were respected for reliability in harsh conditions, and its fire-fighting vehicle expertise gave Iveco a leading position in the emergency services market that it has maintained to this day. The OM and UNIC acquisitions added manufacturing capacity in light and medium commercial vehicles, giving Iveco immediate coverage across the full payload spectrum from light vans to heavy long-distance trucks.

Today, Iveco operates as part of CNH Industrial following a 2013 spin-off from Fiat Industrial. The company manufactures approximately 150,000 vehicles annually across production facilities in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, China, and Argentina. Its product range spans light commercial vehicles (Daily), medium trucks (Eurocargo), heavy trucks (S-Way, X-Way, T-Way), city buses (Crossway, Urbanway), coaches (Magelys), and the iconic Iveco Defence Vehicles range used by military forces in over 25 countries.

Innovation & Technology

Iveco has been a European pioneer in alternative fuel commercial vehicles, particularly compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) powertrains. The S-Way NP (Natural Power) range offers long-haul trucks capable of running on LNG over distances comparable to diesel, with significantly lower CO₂ emissions and substantially reduced NOx — addressing both regulatory pressure and operator cost concerns simultaneously. This commitment predates the current EV boom by decades, reflecting a pragmatic approach to decarbonisation that acknowledges the operational realities of long-distance freight.

The Daily Electric has been in production since 2010 — one of Europe's first light electric commercial vehicles — giving Iveco deep experience in electric vehicle battery management, thermal control, and fleet charging integration. The latest generation offers up to 280 km range and a 120 kW fast-charging capability that allows meaningful top-up during regulated driver rest breaks, making it practical for demanding urban logistics operations.

  • CNG & LNG powertrains — Iveco leads Europe in natural gas commercial vehicles with decades of operational data
  • Daily Electric — light electric van with up to 280 km range, in production since 2010
  • eDaily hydrogen fuel cell — next-generation zero-emission van under development for the 2025-2030 period
  • ADAS suite — predictive cruise control, lane assist, and automatic emergency braking on S-Way
  • Connect Fleet telematics — real-time vehicle monitoring, fuel consumption analysis, and driver behaviour scoring

In Azerbaijan

Iveco trucks and vans have a substantial operational presence in Azerbaijan, where they serve the country's logistics, construction, and public transport sectors. The Daily is particularly common in Azerbaijan's commercial vehicle fleet — used for last-mile delivery, minibus services, and municipal operations across Baku and the regions. Iveco's Eurocargo and S-Way heavy trucks are found in the construction and freight industries supporting Azerbaijan's ambitious infrastructure development programmes.

Azerbaijan's role as a key transit corridor between Europe and Central Asia — part of the Middle Corridor connecting China to Europe via the Caspian Sea — makes reliable commercial vehicles critical infrastructure. Iveco's strong spare parts network across Turkey and its presence in Georgia means that Caucasus operators have accessible service support for their Iveco fleets. The brand's CNG truck range is particularly relevant as Azerbaijan expands its natural gas vehicle infrastructure.
