The Changan Story
Changan traces its roots to 1862, when Li Hongzhang founded an arsenal in Shanghai to supply China's military modernisation drive. That engineering culture — precision, scale, and relentless improvement — became the foundation on which one of China's oldest automakers was eventually built.
In 1984 Changan pivoted to civilian vehicles from its base in Chongqing, and joint ventures with Ford and PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) in the 2000s brought global manufacturing standards into its factories. This East-West exchange elevated Changan's engineering from competent to genuinely world-class.
