The Toyota Cavalier — the Japanese market version of the GM Cavalier sold under the Toyota badge, a rare experiment born of US-Japan trade agreements.
The Toyota Cavalier was sold in the Japanese market from 1995 to 2000. The model is essentially a rebadged version of the Opel/Chevrolet Cavalier (T-Body platform). This was the result of an arrangement between General Motors and Toyota under US government demands for access to the Japanese automotive market. Sedan (4-door) and coupe (2-door) variants were available.
The Cavalier was not successful in the JDM market — Japanese consumers did not accept this American-standard model. The 2.4L LD9 (GM) engine produced 143 hp. An interesting fact: it was converted to right-hand drive for the Japanese market. Toyota sold it through its own distributor network.
The Toyota Cavalier is an extremely rare model in Azerbaijan. GM Cavalier parts are not impossible to find in Azerbaijan, but sourcing specific body parts for this model will be very difficult. Mechanically, the 2.4L GM engine (LD9) can be kept operational.

Competitor choice in Azerbaijan should account not only for headline specs, but for service ecosystem, parts availability, and ownership confidence over your actual routes.
| Model | Core Strength | Main Compromise (Local Context) |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Carina E | Better build quality, more reliable service network | Less exclusive, more common |
| Toyota Camry SXV10 | Larger, more comfortable, better value | Cannot replicate the rarity of the Cavalier |
| Chevrolet Cavalier (US) | Same mechanics, parts easier to find | Left-hand drive, not officially available in Azerbaijan |
| Nissan Primera P11 | Japanese quality, better handling dynamics | Not as rare as the Toyota Cavalier |
Toyota's service infrastructure in Azerbaijan is more comprehensive than any rival in this segment. Several authorised Toyota dealers in Baku, numerous independent specialists, and wide local parts availability for major models are all accessible. Cavalier maintenance costs are significantly lower compared to German rivals.

Japanese consumers did not equate American quality standards with Japanese cars. Cabin design, transmission quality, and overall feel were considered inferior to Japanese rivals. Sales figures were always low.
Extremely rarely. Some examples may exist that arrived through parallel imports from Japan, but finding one will be very difficult. Mainly collectors are interested.
Technically they are almost identical. The difference consists of Toyota emblems, slightly different grille design, right-hand drive conversion for the Japanese market, and sales through Toyota's distributor network.
The Toyota Cavalier is technically a right-hand drive version of the GM Cavalier. Finding parts in Azerbaijan is virtually impossible. This model is only interesting for automotive history enthusiasts and collectors. Under no circumstances is it recommended for daily use.
