The Volkswagen Scirocco R is the high-performance crown of the Scirocco lineup — 265 hp, 6.5s 0-100 km/h, Haldex AWD, DCC adaptive suspension and a visual package that makes it unmistakable among hot hatches.
The Volkswagen Scirocco R was introduced in 2009 as the high-performance version of the Mk3 Scirocco. The 2.0L TSI EA113 (later EA888) engine produces 265 hp, significantly higher than the Golf GTI Mk5/Mk6 (210 hp). The Scirocco R's most distinctive feature is its Haldex AWD system — AWD is almost non-existent in VW's hot hatchback lineup (Golf R being the exception). The six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox is standard.
The Scirocco R's full equipment package includes features that impress enthusiasts: DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) adaptive suspension allows the driver to choose comfort, sport, and individual modes. Bi-xenon headlights are standard. Brembo 18-inch brake discs are fitted at the front axle. 235/35 R19 Pirelli P Zero tyres are typical. Externally, Scirocco R badges, distinctive bumper design, and quad exhaust outlets make the model instantly recognisable. Alcantara-trimmed sports seats are standard inside.
The Scirocco R is rare in Azerbaijan but available as a parallel import. Sharing the same 2.0 TSI engine and DSG with the Golf R Mk6 simplifies technical service — Golf R spare parts can be used in Azerbaijan. It is valued among local car enthusiasts interested in high performance. The official VW Baku dealer can order some parts, but R-specific spare parts require sourcing from European suppliers.

| Model | Strength | Compromise |
|---|---|---|
| VW Golf R Mk6 (2010–2013) | Larger five-door interior; stronger Golf R parts network; higher resale value in Azerbaijan | Scirocco R's coupé silhouette aesthetics; lower driving position; coupé-specific driving feel |
| SEAT Leon Cupra (Mk2, 2006–2012) | Lower price; SEAT-specific aggressive design; practical 5-door option; strong service network | Scirocco R's Haldex AWD system; DCC adaptive suspension; Brembo brake equipment; VW premium build quality |
| Audi TT-S (8J, 2008–2014) | Audi premium reputation; quattro AWD system; more refined interior materials; stronger brand value | Scirocco R delivers the same AWD performance at a much lower price; more powerful engine; DSG handling advantage |
The Volkswagen Scirocco R is the highest point of the Scirocco lineup — 265 hp, Haldex AWD, DCC adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes. The engine/DSG shared with the Golf R makes technical servicing relatively accessible in Azerbaijan. As a rare model, collector value increases. However, before purchase, DSG service history, Haldex AWD, and DCC shock absorbers must be thoroughly inspected — these systems are expensive to repair if they fail. If a well-maintained example is chosen, the Scirocco R can serve as a wonderful sports coupé in Azerbaijan.
