The Chrysler Caravan is the original — the vehicle that created the minivan segment in 1984. Together with its twin the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager, the Caravan was the idea of Lee Iacocca's Chrysler team: a vehicle with a car-like unibody construction and FWD drivetrain, packaged in a practical, van-like body that could park in a standard garage. No one had done it before, and within a decade the minivan had become the definitive American family vehicle.

Over five generations (1984–2007), the Caravan grew in size, power, and sophistication. The short-wheelbase Caravan ran alongside the long-wheelbase Grand Caravan throughout most of the production run. Engine options evolved from a 2.2L four-cylinder (100 hp) in 1984 to a 3.3L and 3.8L V6 in later generations producing up to 215 hp.

In Azerbaijan, the Caravan and Grand Caravan are popular used family vehicles — affordable, spacious, and practical. The fourth-generation (1996–2000) and fifth-generation (2001–2007) models with the 3.3L or 3.8L V6 are the most practical choices.
