The Chrysler Stratus was the Chrysler-branded version of the JA/JS platform mid-size sedan — sharing its architecture with the Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze. The Chrysler Stratus offered more upscale trim levels and slightly more premium interior appointments than its platform siblings. Available in both sedan and coupe body styles, it covered a broad market range.

The first generation (1995–2000) used the JA platform with the 2.0L, 2.4L, and 2.5L V6 engine options. The second generation (2001–2006) moved to the JS platform and was significantly improved in terms of interior quality, ride comfort, and engine refinement. The second-gen sedan also gained the 2.7L V6 as a top engine option.
