Origins & Heritage
BAIC traces its roots to 1958 when the Beijing Automobile Works produced the first domestically developed Chinese passenger car, the Jinggang Shan. Built in the same year the People's Republic chose to launch a national automobile industry, BAIC became one of the founding pillars of China's motorisation ambition — a position it has retained for more than six decades.
A defining moment in BAIC's modern history came in 1983 when a technical cooperation agreement with AMC (American Motors Corporation) brought Jeep manufacturing to Beijing, making it one of the earliest Sino-foreign automotive ventures in China. The relationship with Western technology deepened with the establishment of Beijing Benz Automotive Co. (BBAC) in 2005 — a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz that now produces the C-Class, E-Class, and GLC for the Chinese market and has grown into one of the world's most productive premium vehicle plants.
Beyond its joint venture success, BAIC has invested heavily in creating independent brands. The BAIC brand itself focuses on rugged off-road SUVs — the BJ40 and BJ80 have earned strong reputations — while the Arcfox sub-brand, launched under BAIC Blue Valley, pushes into the premium electric segment with 800V ultra-fast-charging architecture and technology partnerships with Huawei.

BAIC in Azerbaijan
BAIC vehicles have gained a growing foothold in Azerbaijan, primarily through the BJ series off-road SUVs which appeal to buyers who require genuine all-terrain capability alongside Chinese value-pricing. The BJ40 in particular has attracted attention from adventure and outdoor enthusiasts who find the combination of classic 4×4 geometry and modern amenities compelling.
BAIC's electric vehicles, particularly the EU series sedans, represent an accessible entry point into EV ownership for Azerbaijani buyers interested in electric mobility. As Chinese brands continue to expand distribution networks in the South Caucasus, BAIC's combination of off-road credibility and EV technology breadth positions it well for growing market penetration.
