Skywell is a dedicated Chinese electric vehicle brand established in 2019, focusing exclusively on battery-electric SUVs for both Chinese domestic and international export markets. Backed by the Skywell Automobile joint venture — supported by established Chinese automotive industrial groups — the brand has rapidly developed a range of stylish, well-specified electric SUVs that compete on design and range against global EV leaders.
Skywell Automobile was established in 2019 as part of China's rapidly expanding new-energy vehicle (NEV) sector, formed through a joint venture involving BAIC Group-affiliated industrial partners with the explicit goal of producing premium-positioned battery-electric vehicles for export markets. Unlike many Chinese EV startups that tried to replicate Tesla's tech-company approach, Skywell took a more traditional automotive industry path — building proper manufacturing facilities, investing in crash safety engineering, and designing vehicles to meet international regulatory standards from the outset.
The brand's first model, the ET5, launched in China in 2020 and was followed by the larger BE11 SUV, which became the primary export vehicle for markets including New Zealand, Australia, Israel, and parts of Europe and Central Asia. The BE11's combination of a striking aesthetic, competitive range, and lower pricing than established EV brands from Tesla and European manufacturers has attracted genuine buyer interest in markets open to Chinese alternatives.
Skywell's manufacturing facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, applies rigorous quality control standards as the brand targets the same buyers who might otherwise consider a Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, or Volkswagen ID.4. The brand has received type approval in the European Union — a demanding certification process that validates its engineering standards for international markets.
Skywell's electric SUVs blend European-influenced design sensibility with Chinese manufacturing efficiency, creating vehicles that stand out in both appearance and environmental credentials.

Skywell's lineup is focused on electric SUVs spanning compact to mid-size segments, with the BE11 serving as the brand's primary global export vehicle alongside newer additions targeting different price and size categories.
Skywell's technology focus is on delivering a premium EV experience — long range, fast charging, and sophisticated connectivity — at prices below the established leaders from Europe and the United States. The BE11 uses a 78 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack for long-term durability and resistance to capacity degradation, paired with a 150 kW electric motor for energetic urban performance. The brand's smart cockpit integrates a large central touchscreen, AI voice assistant, and remote vehicle control via smartphone app.
Skywell has identified Azerbaijan and the broader South Caucasus as a priority emerging market for its electric SUVs, particularly as regional governments and buyers show growing interest in reducing fossil fuel dependency. The Baku EV charging network has expanded significantly in recent years, and government incentives for zero-emission vehicles create a favourable environment for brands like Skywell.
The BE11's combination of range, specification, and competitive pricing makes it an attractive alternative to Korean and European electric SUVs for Azerbaijani buyers seeking their first battery-electric vehicle. As Skywell establishes service and parts infrastructure in the region, ownership confidence will grow and the brand's market footprint is expected to expand alongside Azerbaijan's developing EV ecosystem.
