Spyker Cars is the Netherlands' most celebrated supercar manufacturer — a brand with a heritage stretching to 1880 and a modern revival that produced some of the most distinctive handbuilt sports cars of the early 21st century. Known for their aviation-inspired interiors, exposed mechanical craftsmanship, and the motto 'Nulla tenaci invia est via' (For the tenacious, no road is impassable), Spyker represents the finest Dutch automotive artisanship.
The original Spyker company was founded in 1880 in the Netherlands as a carriage manufacturer, transitioning to automobiles in 1900. Early Spyker cars were progressive for their era — a 1903 Spyker 60 HP was reportedly the first car to feature four-wheel brakes and a four-wheel-drive system. The original company folded in 1926 after financial difficulties. The name was revived by Dutch entrepreneur Victor Muller and businessman Maarten de Bruijn in 2000, with a mission to create handbuilt Dutch supercars of the highest quality.
Modern Spyker's flagship product was the C8 — a mid-engined supercar available in various configurations including the C8 Laviolette coupe, C8 Spyder roadster, and the higher-specification C8 Aileron. These cars featured Audi V8 engines (and later a turbocharged V8), six-speed manual or paddle-shift transmissions, and interiors inspired by early aviation cockpits — featuring aircraft-style gauges, exposed gearbox mechanisms visible through the centre console, and exquisite leather and brushed aluminium trim. Each C8 was individually handbuilt at Spyker's facility in Zeewolde.
Spyker had an eventful corporate history in the 2000s — acquiring Saab Automobile from General Motors in 2010, a transaction that ultimately proved financially damaging when Saab failed to secure sufficient funding and collapsed in 2011. Following Saab's bankruptcy, Spyker restructured, refocusing on its core supercar business. The C8 Preliator, revealed in 2016, represented Spyker's commitment to continuing production — featuring the latest Audi-sourced turbocharged V8 and updated technology while preserving the brand's defining aviation-inspired aesthetic.
Spyker supercars are immediately recognisable by their distinctive aviation-inspired design — exposed gearbox mechanics, aircraft cockpit gauges, and obsessive attention to craftsmanship in leather and polished aluminium.

Spyker's range has centred on the C8 platform in various body styles and specifications, each sharing the brand's defining aviation-inspired aesthetic and commitment to individual handcraft construction.
Spyker cars are engineered around proven Audi V8 drivetrain components — ensuring mechanical reliability and parts availability — combined with a bespoke aluminium space-frame chassis and entirely handbuilt body panels. This approach mirrors the philosophy of other small-volume supercar manufacturers: use proven mechanical components to ensure durability, and invest craftsmanship resources in the body, chassis, and interior where the bespoke nature of the product is most visible.
Spyker is effectively unknown as a production car in Azerbaijan — total C8 production over the modern revival period amounts to fewer than 500 cars worldwide, making any example a genuine rarity anywhere outside Western Europe. However, the Spyker brand is recognised among Azerbaijan's community of extreme supercar enthusiasts as one of the world's most distinctive and rarest sports cars.
For the discerning Azerbaijani buyer who values absolute rarity and artisanal craftsmanship over brand recognition, a Spyker C8 represents an extraordinary statement. The Audi V8 engine ensures that basic mechanical servicing is achievable through the Audi dealer network; the bespoke body and chassis, however, would require factory support for any significant repairs. A Spyker in Baku would be genuinely unique — a car that very few people worldwide have ever seen in person.
