XPENG (also known as XPeng or 小鹏) is China's leading smart electric vehicle brand — a company that views the car not as a vehicle with software added, but as a software platform that happens to carry passengers. XPENG's XNGP full-stack autonomous driving technology, developed entirely in-house, has established the brand as the most technically ambitious Chinese EV company in the field of intelligent driving.
XPENG was founded in Guangzhou in 2014 by He Xiaopeng — a software entrepreneur who had previously co-founded UCWeb (acquired by Alibaba in 2014) — and a team of engineers drawn from Google, Tesla, and leading Chinese technology companies. He Xiaopeng's software background fundamentally shaped XPENG's product philosophy: the car would be designed from the outset as a computing platform, with the vehicle architecture subordinated to the requirements of the intelligent driving and cockpit software that would define the ownership experience.
XPENG's early years were characterised by a relentless focus on autonomous driving research. While other Chinese EV startups competed primarily on design, range, and service, XPENG invested disproportionately in its AI and ADAS capabilities — building a team of over 3,000 engineers dedicated exclusively to intelligent driving by 2023. The result is XNGP (XPENG Navigation Guided Pilot) — a full-stack autonomous driving system developed entirely in-house, capable of navigating complex urban road environments without HD maps on a growing list of cities.
XPENG listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2020 and subsequently on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, raising capital that accelerated its technology development and global expansion. The company has established sales operations across Europe, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands, and is expanding into the Middle East and Central Asian markets. A strategic partnership with Volkswagen AG — which invested in XPENG and agreed to jointly develop two electric vehicles for the Chinese market — further validates XPENG's technical capabilities.
XPENG's models combine aerodynamically sophisticated design with cutting-edge technology integration — the P7's sleek fastback profile, the G9's commanding SUV presence, and the G6's sporty coupe-SUV lines all reflect a brand with a clear design identity.

XPENG's lineup spans SUVs (G-series) and saloons (P-series), each incorporating the brand's signature intelligent driving technology and Xmart OS cockpit platform. The G9's 800-volt architecture represents the brand's charging technology flagship, while the X9 MPV targets China's premium people-carrier segment.
XPENG's technology leadership centres on XNGP — its full-stack, in-house developed autonomous driving system. Unlike systems that rely on HD maps, XNGP uses a combination of LiDAR, cameras, and radar with powerful onboard AI processors to navigate urban environments without pre-mapped roads. This "map-light" approach dramatically broadens the geographic scope of XNGP capability, enabling it to work in cities across China and, eventually, globally.
XPENG's reputation for autonomous driving technology is generating significant interest among technology-forward Azerbaijani buyers who view intelligent driving as a key differentiator in vehicle choice. The brand's expanding distribution across Central Asia and the Caucasus brings its technology-leading models to buyers who previously could only access mainstream European alternatives.
XPENG's 800V charging architecture is a key advantage in markets like Azerbaijan where ultra-fast DC charging infrastructure is developing — the ability to recharge to substantial range in very short periods minimises the inconvenience of charging for daily driving. As the brand builds its regional after-sales and service presence, XPENG is positioned to attract a growing base of technology-conscious Azerbaijani EV buyers.
