Chrysler's sporty K-car-based coupe of the 1980s — available with turbocharged power, the Daytona brought American performance back to the budget sports coupe segment.
The Chrysler Daytona was a sporty three-door hatchback coupe built on the K-car platform, using the front-wheel-drive transverse-engine layout to create an affordable sports coupe for the 1980s. The Daytona's styling was bold for its era, with an aerodynamic wedge profile and flush glass that set it apart from its more conservative platform siblings.
Engine options ranged from the basic 2.2L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder (93 hp) to the turbocharged 2.2L producing up to 174 hp in standard Turbo spec, with the rare Daytona Shelby versions pushing 175–224 hp through upgraded turbo specifications. The Shelby editions, developed in partnership with Carroll Shelby, were genuine performance cars by 1980s standards.
The Daytona was discontinued in 1993. In Azerbaijan, it is a vintage collector's piece from a significant era in American affordable performance history.
