Sollers is a Russian automotive holding company that has operated across multiple segments of the Russian vehicle market — managing a portfolio that has included partnerships with Ford, SsangYong, and Mitsubishi, as well as direct ownership of UAZ (the legendary Russian off-road vehicle manufacturer). Following the departure of Western partners after 2022, Sollers has refocused on domestic Russian vehicle production.
Sollers was founded in 2002 as Severstal-Auto — a vehicle manufacturing offshoot of the Severstal steel company. The company acquired a portfolio of Russian automotive assets, most significantly UAZ (Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant) — the manufacturer of the iconic UAZ-469 and UAZ-3909 off-road vehicles that have been workhorses of the Russian military, government, and rural economy since the Soviet era. The Sollers brand name was adopted in 2008 to reflect the company's broader ambitions.
During the 2000s and 2010s, Sollers built an extensive portfolio of international partnerships. A joint venture with Ford produced Ford Transit commercial vehicles and Ford passenger cars at Sollers plants in Tatarstan and Vladivostok. A partnership with Mazda brought Japanese passenger car assembly to Russia. Sollers also assembled SsangYong SUVs for the Russian market and collaborated with Mitsubishi on commercial vehicle production. At its peak, Sollers was one of Russia's largest automotive employers.
The geopolitical events of 2022 fundamentally changed Sollers' business model. Ford, Mazda, and other Western partners suspended operations in Russia, leaving Sollers to refocus on domestic production. The company's response was to develop new Russian-branded products — including the Aton pickup truck and Sollers Argo commercial van — intended to fill the gaps left by departed Western brands. Sollers also expanded its Chinese vehicle assembly operations, partnering with Chinese manufacturers to continue production at its Russian plants.
Sollers' product story spans Soviet-heritage off-road vehicles from UAZ, Western-partnership assembly of Ford and Mazda products, and newly developed Russian-branded commercial vehicles designed for the post-2022 market.

Sollers' product range combines legacy UAZ vehicles with newly developed Russian-branded commercial vehicles and assembled Chinese passenger cars — a diverse portfolio reflecting the company's adaptation to changing market conditions.
Sollers' engineering capabilities span a wide range — from the robust, mechanically simple UAZ vehicles designed for Russian terrain conditions to modern commercial vehicle engineering in the Atlant and Argo. The company's manufacturing expertise, built over two decades of Western joint ventures with Ford and Mazda, provides a foundation for developing competitive domestic Russian products.
Sollers vehicles, particularly UAZ products, have historically had a meaningful presence in Azerbaijan — a legacy of Soviet-era production and the geographic proximity of Russia to the South Caucasus. UAZ off-road vehicles were widely used across Soviet republics for agricultural, military, and government applications, and many survive in Azerbaijan to this day. Sollers' newer commercial vehicles are less common but would be practical choices for businesses seeking Russian-manufactured alternatives.
For Azerbaijani buyers in the commercial and agricultural sectors, Sollers' pickup and van products offer a Russian-manufactured option that avoids the supply chain complications of European and Japanese imports. UAZ's spare parts network is well-established in Azerbaijan from the Soviet era, and Sollers' expanding dealer presence in CIS markets means parts and service support for newer models is increasingly available.
